Leads Software Development For New Security Products

TIERRA VERDE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 2004--PowerLinx, Inc. (OTCBB:PWLX - News), the leader in powerline communication products, announced the hiring of Marvin D. Scaff as Director of Software & Information Technology. Mr. Scaff brings extensive experience and expertise to the Company and is well respected in the industry. He has been very involved in the development of the Company's new home monitoring systems and new digital security systems. He joins our current Director of Digital Engineering, Steven R. Rumbaugh in leading our product engineering group.
Mr. Scaff is a software entrepreneur and technologist. In his 25 years of experience, Scaff has served as a founder, chief executive officer and chief technology officer. Scaff has shipped six 1.0 products, and played a significant role in several successful companies.

- Vertical market CAD / marketing automation tools for the kitchen and bath industry, Auto-Graph Computer Design Systems. Company was acquired by MASCO Corporation, a Fortune 250 company in 1992;
- Macintosh end-user technical support product, Help and Help Network by Teknosys, company was acquired in 1997;
- Java-based intelligent agent application framework, VIA (Versatile Intelligent Agent) by Kinetoscope. VIA was acquired by PowerMarket, a Kleiner Perkins backed Silicon Valley startup developing supply chain event management software.

In addition to these achievements, Scaff has served in a long list of roles and positions starting at the early age of 15 years old. He served as an Entrepreneur-In-Residence for SVIC, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm. He was co-founder and CTO of abeama, a developer of wireless marketing automation tools and BrainBuzz.com, a vertical portal for information technology professionals. He founded and served as CEO of Kinetoscope, Inc., one of the nation's pioneers in Java-based intelligent agent development. Kinetoscope's clients included General Motors International, US West and Visa International. Kinetoscope did project work for Real Time Knowledge Systems, collaborative strategy tools for Gary Hamel, Chairman of Strategos, and Customer Value Management tools for Dr. Bradley Gale, author of "Managing Customer Value" and "The PIMS Principle." He also served as the director of engineering for hands-on technology (HOT), a publisher of business multimedia applications based in Burlingame, California and founded by Regis McKenna. And, he was the director of development for Image Technologies, a multimedia development company where he led development of interactive multimedia projects for BLOCKBUSTER, Johnson & Johnson, Nokia, and Apple Computer. As the director of engineering at Teknosys, Scaff designed the rule-based expert system used in solving system configuration problems for Help! and Help! Network products. Lastly, at the age of 15, he developed a hardware and software based diagnostic system for the Apple //, elements of which were subsequently implemented by Apple Computer.

Also, a published author, Scaff co-wrote the book "The Human Side of Intranets," has written numerous articles for industry publications and co-authored a patent granted in the area of enterprise knowledge portals. Scaff is a member of the editorial board of "Journal of Knowledge and Innovation", published by the Knowledge Management Consortium. Scaff was the author of a monthly column in Interactivity Magazine, a Miller-Freeman Publication, on interactive multimedia development and extending multimedia authoring tools.
