20 Jul 2005 - PowerLinx CEO Tomlinson Interviewed by Wall St. Network
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 2005--PowerLinx, Inc. (OTCBB:PWLX - News) today announced that CEO Mike Tomlinson was interviewed by Nick Iyer at the request of the Wall St. Network. The interview can be heard online at http://www.wallst.net, and serves to familiarize investors with PWLX through insights into its products, intellectual property, and new management team.
In the interview, Mr. Tomlinson discussed the Company's core business, power line technology. PowerLinx technology transmits video, audio and data over the existing electrical wiring in a home or small office. Transmitting over the existing electrical wiring has big advantages when compared with traditional hard wired or RF wireless technology. Traditional hard wired technology requires running a dedicated cable, which is expensive, time consuming and disruptive to existing structures. RF wireless, although easier to set up, can be unreliable, since limits placed on output power by the FCC can result in uneven coverage. In addition, RF wireless transmissions can be intercepted using readily available electronics, bringing security into question. Since electrical wiring is present in every structure, users can easily and quickly configure a video surveillance or data system using low-cost, easily installed products from PowerLinx.
PowerLinx has existing products in the market place. The SecureView(TM) "camera in a light bulb" has been on the market for three years, and is experiencing triple-digit sales growth in the retail market this year. Power Line Vision Systems(TM) and Hind-Sight(TM) Rear Vision products for trucks and recreational vehicles are also experiencing triple-digit growth. Mr. Tomlinson added that the markets for PowerLinx technology are multi-billion dollar markets, with 4% to 20% annual growth rates.
Mr. Tomlinson praised the PowerLinx Board of Directors as strong and decisive in its initiation of the recent restructuring effort. Completed in May 2005, the restructuring included closing three unprofitable divisions, significant cost reductions, reorganizing and reprioritizing R&D, installing a new management team, and implementing a new business strategy which includes licensing of the company's technology and outsourcing of operations where it makes sense. This is allowing to company to focus resources on its core competency, developing power line technologies that enable major competitive advantages in major product categories.
Tomlinson said that key milestones the company is seeking to achieve are: major licensing contracts for PowerLinx new technologies with major OEM Manufacturers; and achieving positive cash flow within the next 18 months.
In closing, Mr. Tomlinson summarized the company's key advantages: high end-user demand; large, growing potential markets; a breakthrough technology which is easy to use; successful existing product lines; seasoned management with a proven track record of success; and a strong, decisive Board of Directors.
