17 October 2007 - FOX 13 Profiles Powerlinx Zone Defense Video Back Up Systems
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- October 17, 2007- PowerLinx, Inc. (OTCBB: PWNX - News) a developer, manufacturer, and seller of power line communication products, Car and Truck Video Back-up Systems, and SeaView Underwater Camera Systems, was recently profiled on Tampa’s FOX 13.
The PowerLinx line of Zone Defense Video Auto Back-up Systems were featured in a segment regarding the rash of accidents related to children being injured by a car or truck backing up. The September 5th, 2007 story focused on ways that car and truck drivers are utlizing rear-vision back up systems to drive safer and with more confidence.
“The Department of Transpostation (DOT) clearly recognizes the at-risk status of the nation’s children regarding this issue,” said James Markus, Vice President and General Manager of Zone Defense. “The DOT says there are at least 50 vehicle “back-up injuries” a week in the US, including two fatalities each week.”
To illustrate the benefits of rear-vision camera systems, FOX 13 shows a large, 18-wheel semi-truck that had a custom-installed Zone Defense back-up camera system. With this system in place, the driver in the cab of the truck gets a clear picture on a monitor of everything behind his truck that he can not see using his side mirrors. FOX 13 also reported that much of the research that is being done into reducing back-up auto injuries is done at a government sponsored research program at the University of South Florida (USF). The research project began in January, 2006, and is handled through USF’s Center for Urban Transportation Research. From the research project’s inception, PowerLinx has been deeply involved in assisting USF in making sure this program is a success; the results of which may impact pending national legislation related to automobile and truck safety equipment requirements.
“We are proud to be associated with USF in this very important research project,” stated PowerLinx CEO and Chairman Michael Tomlinson. “We believe, over time, more and more people will see the numerous safety benefits associated with the proper use of our Zone Defense video back-up systems.”
The Company’s Zone Defense segment has experienced significant growth through the first six months of the 2007 fiscal year. Net revenues increased 50%, to $568,700 for the six months ended June 30, 2007, compared to $358,000 for the same period ended June 30, 2006. Based on current order flow, the Company’s management hopes the Zone Defense segment will achieve net revenues of nearly $1.2M for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2007; should that be the case, it may result in an increase in net revenues of 85% over the previous fiscal year ended Decemer 31, 2006.
